Thanks for posting! I remember listening to this on Radio 1 whilst recording to a few TDK cassettes. LOL!!! 😉

  2. Idge - June 2, 2009 4:49 pm

Thanks you so much … But I have a question, this is different to the Jan or Feb 1995 Radio One Essential Mix I recorded. I was a student at the time, I remember staying up that night just so I could switch the C-90 cassette over on my tape deck when it got half way – I stayed home instead of going to a party just so I could tape it.

That mix started off with Romanthony ‘Ministry of Love’, into Todd Terry ‘Jumpin’ .. this is a different mix, which is awesome, as I havent heard this one, but what about the other?

Hows that for trainspotting, 15 years on!! 🙂

  3. Idge - June 2, 2009 6:36 pm

OK, figured it out, this is the second part of that Essential mix from 27th Nov, 1994 – the first part started out with Romanthony – prerecorded mix before this part (posted) live from the club:

Barry White – “Love Is The Icon” (A&M)
Arnold Jarvis & Kerri Chandler – “Inspiratio” (Freetown)
Swing 52 – “Colour Of My Skin” (ffrr)
Sounds Of Blackness – “The Harder They Come” (A&M)
    Judy Cheeks – “Respect” (Positiva)
Benji Candel Ario – “Love Is What We Need” (Freeze)
24 Hour Experience – “More Dub Essentials” (white Label)
Rhythm Construction Co. – “Don’t Blame Me” (Nice & Ripe)
Gwen McCrae – “Keep The Fire Burning” (Club Vision)
Pamela Fernandez – “Kickin’ In The Beat” (Ore)
Cover Ups – Untitled (white Label)
Love Happy – “Message Of Love” (MCA)
Tribal Infusion – “Sumba Lumba” (Strictly Rhythm)
BMU – “You Will Know” (Mercury)
Satoshi Tomillie – “Ole Ole” (Pony Canyon)
Mary J Blige – “Happy” (MCA)
Janet Jackson – “That’s The Way Love Goes” (Virgin)
    Donna Allen – “Real” (Epic)
Horace Brown – “Taste Your Love” (MCA)
India – “River Ocean” (Strictly Rhythm)
Love Happy – “Message Of Love” (MCA)

I’ve managed to download a few of your mixes from 94-95, including the one above, and what an absolute breath of fresh air they are.
I can’t wait until you get round to uploading your stints at the Ministry (’91-’95). A wonderful period in house music. Thanks CJ.

This is the essential mix which really got me into house music in ’94. It inspired me from then on, and over the years I’ve DJ’d, produced, and am still doing it now. Been looking for this for 10-15 years as I have nearly worn the old TDK cassette out. Nice one CJ. You don’t know just how happy I am right now.

Have to say that 94 essential mix changed my musical life, used to play that & the nervous mix free with dj mag? non stop throughout 94. Anybody know much about the version of willie ninja that is played? i could never find that version only on a poor quality boot.

  14. john - February 16, 2010 9:07 pm

When was this mix created CJ? I remember u playing this set at release the pressure, Cafe de Paris. Since then its been house.

  15. ninetieshousepreview - September 30, 2010 10:59 am

    Thanks for this 🙂
Now I dont need to drag out my tape machine(which is in parents loft btw) and fumble about connecting to the PC.

  16. Anonymous - September 4, 2011 7:31 pm

Hi, really wanted to download this mix but the link does not appear to be working anymore. Can you get it fixed? I recorded the original on tape and played it to death! Hopefully you can get JT sorted.

An amazing mix, been looking for a decent copy of it for years (had a dodgy 60 mins copy on tape)…a thousand thanks Mr CJ Mackintosh 🙂

  18. craig banister - February 10, 2012 11:52 pm

CJ you once did a mix at cream in the early 90’s which contained a version of willie ninja@s I’m hot for you which i’ve never been able to get hold of. It was a version which held the first chord with a skippy beat to back up. was this an acetate or can you help much love and thanks for the great nights out>

CJ Mac, absolute gem of a mix I remember listening to this mix live very well it still makes my hairs on the back of my neck stand up! I did tape the mix but had my car stolen with the said tape in it, and honestly I could not give a feck about the runaround car I just wanted my TAPE! Any how listening and loving it all over again mucho respecto CJ.
